Finally figured out that the only way it works is to upgrade the firmware to each release in order. Every time I attempted to upgrade to the latest firmware on ZyXEL's site I got an error saying that the firmware file was invalid. My unit shipped with the original firmware. The firmware upgrade process was a little frustrating at first. The speed issues could also have something to do with the 2 3TB Western Digital Green drives that I have installed in it. It is fast enough for what I use it for though and that is all that matters I suppose.
